Also known as African horned cucumber, horned melon, spiked melon, or kiwano. A thorny, oval, exotic fruit with a lime-green jelly inside. Green skins turn orange when ripe, and the fruit has a sweet-sour, banana-lime tropical taste. Can be eaten at any stage (green or gold). Skins, although spiky, are edible too. Delicious with yogurt!

Start 3-4 weeks early indoors, in biodegradable pots. Sow seeds 1" deep, 6" apart. Space groups 20-25" apart. Plant after all danger of frost is passed. Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days.
