Baptisia australis. This bushy, robust perennial grows 2-4' high with blue, pea-like flowers that grow densely congested in upright, 4-16" long spikes, similar in appearance to lupines. Considered a near native plant to Ontario. Deer and rabbit resistant. Also known as Blue False Indigo.

Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter, or very early spring. If starting indoors, wet and cold stratification is required. Moisten seeds in plastic bag and refrigerate (4-8 wks), then sow 8-10 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds 1/8" deep. Keep soil moist until established. Seeds emerge in 21-28 days.
