Perennial
Full sun
Asparagus officinalis. Flavorful, dark green thick shoots with purplish hues that produce for 15-20 years. Hardy heirloom variety, produces well in cold temperatures. Ferny foliage grows quite tall. Although it takes a few years for full harvest, it is well worth the wait.
20 seeds per packet
Start seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before last frost. Plant seeds 1" deep. Transplant seedlings outdoors after frost, spacing them 18" apart in sunny, well-draining soil. Fertilize well. Exercise patience during the first year; avoiding harvest for crown establishment. Restrict harvest in the second year, and enjoy full harvest by the third year. Seeds germinate in 14-21 days.
